ROBLOX International Film Festival

The Film Festival has been open to submissions for just under a month. While we’re seeking films within five categories, we have still received very few speed-building showcases and city-themed films. If you want to get noticed, go for one of those categories.

Can’t Go to BLOXcon? Think Again!

Virtual BLOXconOnly a small fraction of ROBLOXia’s current population will actually get to attend the sold-out BLOXcon in person this summer. As much as we’d like to show up in every town and throw a live BLOXcon for you and your friends, we haven’t yet mastered the technology or hired the couple thousand minions we’d need to make that possible. Instead, we’re going to show up via the series of tubes that are The Internet this September for a virtual BLOXcon! While we hammer out the details of the event, save this date: Saturday, September 21st.

What do we have in mind for the virtual equivalent of BLOXcon? We’re planning to:

Enter the BLOXcon Poster Contest Today

Poster Contest GraphicWe’re already running a contest to collect submissions for the ROBLOX International Film Festival, but we thought it only fair to give the graphic designers of ROBLOXia an equal opportunity to make their mark on our upcoming BLOXcon events. To that end, we’ve launched a poster contest, where you have a chance to design a BLOXcon poster and win fantastic prizes!

Here’s how it works: starting immediately, you can design and submit a BLOXcon poster for BLOXcon Chicago, BLOXcon London or BLOXcon New York City. We’ll be collecting submissions through June 2nd at 11:59 p.m. PT, and will select winners during the following week. Winners will have their poster printed and distributed at BLOXcon, receive a framed print of their poster signed by ROBLOX admins, and get an exclusive virtual prize for their ROBLOX character! Click here to view the contest, get started on your submission and see other entries. Simply complete the submission form and upload your poster design to enter.

Tips for Submitting a Successful Film Fest Entry

ROBLOX International Film Fest 2013The submission phase of the ROBLOX International Film Festival is in full swing! During the first two weeks, ROBLOX builders have submitted more than 200 films, and many of them are undoubtedly capable of earning a coveted BLOXY Award. But don’t let that dissuade you; there are still two more weeks to submit and the weekend is imminent. It’s a perfect time to get started on your own film.

Those of you who didn’t swoop in and enter right away actually have an advantage: you can see what categories are stacked with competition and what categories remain thin. For instance, we’ve received a lot of ROBLOX machinima and commercials, but a relatively small number of city-specific films and physics/building showcases. If you want to improve your odds of getting noticed, produce a film that falls under a category with fewer entries. Create a city-specific film that shows the essence of Chicago, London or New York City within ROBLOX. Capture footage of yourself building something cool and intricate, then speed up the footage so we can see the whole process.

Win a Prestigious BLOXY at the ROBLOX Film Festival

ROBLOX International Film Festival PosterForget the Oscars, the Emmys, the Tonys and the Grammys. In the summer of 2013, the most prized award will be a BLOXY– and you could be among the few and proud ROBLOXians to take one home.

This year, we want to see you, the builders and players of the ROBLOX community, share more and more of your creativity and ROBLOXian experience using video. Sure, we’ve already held video contests and made a point of awarding users for their ingenious ideas at last year’s ROBLOX Game Conference, but now we’re thinking bigger, grander and more glorious. We’re thinking worldwide ROBLOX Film Festival, where the winners not only receive BLOXY Awards, but have their films premiered at each BLOXcon in front of a live audience.

BLOXcon FedorasBLOXcon passes have been on sale for about two weeks now and in that time we’ve sold almost 50% of them across all three events. The early-afternoon Main Stage Presentation slots for BLOXcon London and New York City are already booked solid, and other highly desirable sessions are filling up quickly. So, if you don’t want to wake up too early, we recommend you snag your pass today.

But that’s not the real news. This week, we revealed that every pass will also include an exclusive virtual fedora, customized to the city where you’re attending BLOXcon. And that will make you, the proud owner, the envy of ROBLOXia.
